Two BDP Schools in London Open
Two schools by BDP opened to pupils this January. Walworth Academy in Southwark consists of two new buildings, one classroom block and one sports/shared facilities building. Spaces are designed to be flexible as far as possible, and the design of the building is such that further space can be added in the longer term if necessary. At the heart of the new school is a landscaped courtyard which serves as entrance, relaxation and informal teaching space.
The Conservative Party launched their draft Education Manifesto at the new academy on 18 January, The event heard from David Cameron, MP and Michael Gove, MP on opposition plans, entitled, ‘Mending our Broken Society’.
Highbury Grove in Islington is a large secondary comprehensive school with a sixth form. The school specialises in business enterprise and also has a strong track record for arts and sports having achieved both Artsmark Gold and Sportsmark Gold Awards. The mainstream school is co-located with Samuel Rhodes School which opened in September last year. The two schools are set either side of the dining facilities and connected sports hall and assembly spaces, integrating and creating different territories for a wide spectrum of learners.
