BDP directors appointed Built Environment Experts
Three directors from BDP have been appointed as Built Environment Experts (BEEs) by the Cabe team at the Design Council. The network of 250 BEEs was launched on 13 July to support its work delivering high-quality designed places throughout the UK.
Andrew Swain-Smith is an engineer, a main board director of BDP and education sector head for the environmental design studio. Andrew believes the importance of fresh air, great daylight, comfortable temperatures and appropriate acoustics are fundamental to good school design. “Low energy passive design, renewable energy and low carbon are the buzzwords in the education sector at present; implementing successful solutions within the programme, budgetary and PFI constraints is the challenge.”
BDP architect directors Wayne Head and Richard Rees have also been appointed to the new network which is a broad and flexible group of highly respected specialists, drawn from a range of sectors. The network will provide multi-disciplinary support to communities, local authorities and developers involved in built environment projects.
