Hoge Weide Masterplan

Facts

Location Client Size Completion
Utrecht, the Netherlands Municipality of Utrecht 30 hectares design 2010, realisation started 2010

Project details

The Hoge Weide neighbourhood is an exciting new residential area in a sea of green areas and parks, and conveniently located next to the centre of Leidsche Rijn. 1300 housing units – divided 70-30% between low rise and high rise – in all price ranges, together with office spaces, a school with a playground and other community facilities. The height difference created by covering the land tunnel of the A2 motorway creates an interesting and special living environment. Existing elements such as the watercourse, a medieval road, a historic farm and trees will be preserved as much as possible.

A green structure built up around a green valley divides Hoge Weide in three distinct ‘fragments’.

Hoge Weide will get a strong, vibrant edge with building volumes that are larger than in the central area and specific plinths with social facilities. The buildings next to the park covering the A2 motorway will be singular urban office villas, bridging the height difference between the park and the lower housing neighbourhood.
