Eversheds Sutherland’s new workplace is centred on agile working, employee wellbeing, and direct physical and visual connectivity. This design concept draws on the idea of the ‘Cityspace’ and aims to use elements from the urban landscape - such as exposed ceilings, metals and neutral tones that speak to the industrial heritage of the surrounding area.

The use of biophilic design and natural materials such as timber are applied throughout the scheme to aid a sense of calm. Bringing the outside in, the design takes inspiration from the landscapes surrounding Manchester, which are dramatic, rich in wildlife and some of the most beautiful natural areas in England.

The introduction of ‘neighbourhood’ spaces heralds a new way of working, focused on efficiency. This neighbourhood approach to planning offers uniformity to all users and embodies Evershed's emphasis on collaboration and diversity.

Between floors, a Spanish staircase linking all three levels was constructed. Evoking the ideals of a modern workplace, the structure functions to bring people and places together.

By creating further opportunities to meet, connect and work, the feature auditorium staircase not only acts as an architectural link between the floors but represents a meeting place that mirrors spaces within the city’s public realm.

Among the striking architectural design, feature lighting is incorporated into client and social areas to help differentiate meeting rooms and create an inspiring environment for all. This is paired with PIR lighting that has been installed to reduce energy consumption and a range of state-of-the-art conferencing, wireless connectivity and IT systems.

Our design was the 2021 Project and the Year at the Mixology North Awards.
