A new mixed-use scheme in Cairo would see the creation of a new community quarter.

As a new community quarter in the hear of Downtown Cairo, the project aims to preserve and respect the area’s heritage. The scheme will provide a series of mixed-use destinations and experiences, including residential, commercial, educational and leisure. BDP’s approach to the project evolved through a clear understanding of the client’s desire to create a rich and unique destination.
The availability of a large group of buildings to be reimagined in Downtown Cairo is a rare opportunity brought about by the creation of new headquarters of the Ministry for Interiors in New Cairo, to alleviate the congestion of the city centre. This provided the design team with a fantastic insight to look at a city block in its entirety and establish a well-considered masterplan for the site in terms of design, access and site circulation.
Although the existing buildings will need significant intervention to bring the facilities up to modern standards.
The client team was presented with initial thoughts through a series of interventions, utilising existing and new buildings supported by a comprehensive public realm and landscape strategy within the masterplan to complement the initial client brief and to create a number of project drivers that will become catalysts for the future of the MOI Complex and Downtown Cairo.
