John has been responsible for BDP’s strategic focus and overall business operations. He manages the firm’s growth and development and sets out the practice's business objectives for performance across locations, professions and sectors.

John retired from BDP in 2021

Previously chief executive and chair of the Glasgow studio, John maintained a high level of design quality over three decades and is proud of the breadth of architectural output from the Glasgow team.

John was a driving force in the dramatic expansion of our education activities in Scotland and has been project director on a number of our highest profile projects both in the UK and internationally.

Architecture of the future will be…?

Even more client-focused, flexible, and people-centred design approach. The globalisation of economies and markets will drive architectural design towards a more situational approach: site-specific, contextual, local.

BDP appoints new chief executive
