BDP has achieved planning consent for a residential development in the London Borough of Camden, on behalf of Guinness Trust. The site is challenging and presents a number of constraints that have had to be addressed throughout the design process.
Michael Lyon, Regeneration Manager at Guinness Trust said: “Working with our designers and planners, we have listened and responded to residents’ views about the kind of development they want for the local area. We have also addressed a number of issues such as scale, noise, traffic, accessibility, sustainability, visual aesthetic and affordability and we were delighted therefore when all our efforts got the green light from the Council.”
The new development consists of 73 units and includes a mix of private and socially rented housing in a range of sizes from one to four bedrooms. The provision of high-quality affordable housing will help to address an area of identified need in the London Borough of Camden. In addition, the new building layout will provide an attractive central courtyard with associated landscaping. The development seeks to be environmentally sustainable incorporating gas-fired CHP, green roofs and solar collectors providing hot water for residents.
The multidisciplinary team was led by BDP (planning consultant), and includes: Sprunt (architect), Mace (project manager), Kim Sangster Associates (commercial adviser), MVA (transport consultant), RYB: Konsult (sustainability, energy, sunlight/daylight consultant), Broad Oak (arboriculturalist) and Alan Saunders Associates (acoustic consultant).
