Bill Pearson - 1926-2010

Architect partner and former chairman of BDP Harold William (Bill) Pearson died on 17 February (2010) at the age of 84.

Bill who joined the Manchester office of BDP - then the Grenfell Baines Group - in 1959, was invited to become a partner in 1964 and was elected chairman in 1979.  After a constructive five a half years in this role he stood down from the chairmanship in November 1984 to lead the architectural profession across the practice.

Bill was a modernist and had clarity of view on things architectural.  He had a distinguished career and was directly or indirectly a major influence on many of BDP’s best buildings until the time of his retirement in April 1990. He led the architectural teams on many award winning projects but will probably be remembered best for the Halifax Building Society HQ, thought by many to be one of BDP’s finest.

Bill Pearson’s funeral takes place on 25th February at Altrincham, Cheshire.
