The Bowness Bay and The Glebe

BDP has carried out a framework masterplan, commissioned by the Lake District National Park Authority and the Northwest Development Agency, for the revitalisation of Bowness Bay and The Glebe on Lake Windermere, one of the Lake District's most famous tourist destinations.

BDP was appointed to provide a vision for the public realm and facilities which have become rundown and are now of a poor quality. Restaurants, cafes, and wet weather attractions are scarce and the transport inadequate.
Following widespread public consultation the £10m masterplan provides provide guidance on what might be achieved and will help to attract both public and private funding.  Proposals include leisure, retail, offices, food, a hotel, a cultural centre and “the best waterfront park ever”.

If implemented the plan will enable the area to retain its popularity as a leisure experience against other strong competing destinations, cater also for needs of residents and give a massive boost to the local and wider north west economy.
