New Environmental Design Director for Manchester Studio

Steve Merridew has been appointed environmental design director and head of sustainability in BDP’s Manchester studio. He will provide support to environmental engineering director Rob Ferry, for the leadership of the studio’s wider environmental design team, and strengthen the environmental engineering leadership of the firm’s projects in the North.

Steve, who last year won the Environmental Leadership Award in JCI Manchester’s Young Talent Award programme for spearheading the green initiative ‘Manchester Garden City’, joined BDP in 2008, and has a strong background in low energy design, masterplanning and infrastructure.

Steve leads on the environmental design of a number of key projects in the North West including the Enterprise South Liverpool Academy in Speke, the Manchester Town Hall Complex Transformation Project, a sustainable energy masterplan for East Manchester, as well as the Nanjing Medical University in China.

Head of BDP’s Manchester studio, Gavin Elliot, said: “Steve is an outstanding designer and thinker. He has made a significant contribution to many of our projects both nationally and internationally, as well as demonstrating his skills as a social entrepreneur on the Manchester Garden City Initiative. I’m sure he will make a very significant contribution to both BDP’s Manchester studio and the city in the years to come.”
