Bathgate Centre wins RICS Award

The Bathgate Partnership Centre designed by BDP, has won the community benefit category in the RICS Scotland Awards.

The judges said: “The attractive, modern civic building is clearly appreciated by the local community and brings together council and community facilities. In doing so the centre has formed an outstanding space which is comfortable, welcoming and inspiring.”

The project for West Lothian Council is a multi-stakeholder two-storey building and comprises a public ground floor level with community facilities, library, council services and café, and an upper level of open plan offices. The new building provides a feeling of belonging and pride by clearly identifiable as an integral part of the local community, as well as modern, sustainable, attractive, spacious and practical to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

This project will now be automatically entered into the RICS National Awards, where it will compete against other leading projects from across the UK later this year.

Two other BDP projects also received accolades from the RICS. Somerset House East Wing for King’s College London was highly commended in the building conservation category in the London region, and Usher Gallery in Lincoln picked up a commendation in the tourism and leisure category in the East Midlands region.
