According to research by UK’s Mental Health Foundation, 1 in 6 adults experience a common mental health problem such as anxiety or depression every week. At BDP, we appreciate that mental illness can affect anyone, for any reason and at any time in their lives, and with the help of our mental health initiative, BDP Mind, we are working to provide our employees with the means to support their wellbeing.
To celebrate World Mental Health Day on Sunday 10th October, we chose to shine a spotlight – and camera – on the amazing 21 trained mental health first aiders (MHFAs) that work with BDP Mind. As part of the campaign, we asked each volunteer to contribute a relevant statement or anecdote summarising their views towards mental health and wellbeing.
On a day-to-day basis, our MHFAs also provide impartial advice, facilitate access to wellbeing tools and organisations and help to deliver a busy event schedule across our studios.
This year, they’ve successfully led an Around the World Tea Point Roulette that has seen several of our international studios host virtual events for colleagues to meet and catch up, and a series of expert-led webinars on topics such as sleeping well and managing anxiety.
By creating spaces for our employees to have conversations about such vital topics and by providing them with practical tools to support their mental health, our MHFAs are helping us build a future where wellbeing takes precedence both inside the workplace and beyond.
