National Apprenticeship Week 2022

For the 10th year in a row BDP joined National Apprenticeship Week, a celebration that brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

Career paths are often blocked for those without relevant experience, degrees or funding. Apprenticeships are a powerful tool to provide valuable work experience to future professionals and create well-rounded and experienced individuals - all while bringing vast benefits to businesses.

“Since taking on our first three apprentices in 2012, BDP have recruited and upskilled 46 apprentices to work across various professions in Birmingham, London, Manchester and Sheffield. BDP continues to be very active in many Trailblazer Groups supporting the development of Standards in Acoustics, Architecture, Building Services, Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture. Anyone joining us is told we are offering a career, not just an apprenticeship.” – Maria Glynn, HR Projects Manager – Associate and Lead on Apprenticeships within BDP.

The importance of apprenticeships is now widely recognised, with research(*) showing that 86% of employers find that apprentices helped to develop relevant skills for the organisation and fill the skills gap, while 76% say that staff morale is improved by having apprentices.

"Getting an apprenticeship was a chance for me to retrain without having to move back home and go back to university full time. It’s allowed me to immerse myself in the building industry, learn on the job more quickly and understand the importance of collaboration across the business." – Rachel Gilbert, Apprentice Building Services Engineer.
