BDP celebrates double success at AJ Architecture Awards 2024
At last night's prestigious AJ Architecture Awards, the transformative power of great design took centre stage as two of BDP's projects received top honours. A third project, to which we contributed multidisciplinary expertise, was also recognised. These awards celebrate the innovative approaches and collaborative efforts that shape buildings into thriving, community-focused spaces.
Louisa Martindale Building, Royal Sussex County Hospital
This 13-storey healthcare landmark reimagines hospital design, doubling Brighton’s healthcare capacity while putting patients’ needs first. The building’s standout features include sea views for every ward, a welcoming plaza-like lobby, and a rooftop helipad. Judges praised the thoughtful generosity of its spaces and described it as “a prototype for future NHS hospitals.”
College of Arts and Society, Coventry University
Our sensitive retrofit transformed two Brutalist-era buildings into a vibrant creative hub for Coventry University’s campus. Retaining 80% of the existing structures, we delivered a sustainable and future-focused design enriched with social and academic spaces. Judges were inspired by the way it connects to Coventry’s cityscape, calling it “a blueprint for reusing existing buildings.”
Central Foundation Boys’ School
We provided civil and structural engineering, building services, sustainability expertise, acoustics, landscape architecture, and lighting for this award-winning retrofit.
