London, UK | Central Foundation Boys’ School | £38m | 2,140sqm | 2020 (Phase I), 2023 (Phase II) |
Central Foundation is a voluntary aided, comprehensive school, providing education for 933 students between the ages of 11 and 18. The school sits in a busy, densely developed city centre location, within the Bunhill Fields / Finsbury Square Conservation Area. The existing facilities, some of which are Grade II listed, fell far short of the school’s current needs and aspirations and had a detrimental impact on its ability to provide the exceptional learning environment and the educational opportunities that its students deserve.
BDP was appointed to undertake a significant redevelopment of the school which was divided into two phases. Phase I comprises the refurbishment of the listed Block C to increase the number of general classes and the construction a new art and science building on the footprint of the current 1960s Block B. Phase II includes the essential refurbishment of the listed Block A and the unlisted Tabernacle Building, and the construction of a part subterranean sports hall situated in the courtyard.
