Chandigarh, India | Chandigarh Administration | 250 Acres | Design - September 2016 |
The Project scope includes the holistic rejuvenation of the City Center of Chandigarh within the context of the larger Masterplan for Chandigarh by Le Corbusier.
The Design approach utilized basic ideologies of the original masterplan, while adapting to the current need of the people of Chandigarh. In order to create a vibrant public realm, a robust programming strategy has been designed while keeping the user at the core of its realization. This is intended to be implemented in phases which includes upgrading the open spaces, rejuvenating underutilized areas and also restoration of the built fabric. The outdoor environment is intended, not only, to act as a foreground to the built form but also function as an independent entity, while significantly contributing to the overall user experience.
The activities are being designed and programmed in a manner that encourages several sequences of movement through plazas in various seasons and times of the day. The landscape thus becomes a dynamic, self-sustaining entity providing the incentive for an enhanced retail experience.
