Liverpool, UK | Clatterbridge NHS Trust | 2020 |
Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest networked cancer centres in the UK. Combining its world-class clinical services, research and academic excellence, the centre provides specialist nonsurgical oncology treatment and is located on the Liverpool Health Campus.
A main feature of the building is the set-back cantilever form over the entrance and the sunken landscape court that gives the radiotherapy department access to the therapeutic landscape, despite the site's tight urban context. The building also steps back in profile to provide external terrace space to the wards and the chemotherapy floor, with panoramic views across Liverpool.
The entrance and reception facilities achieve active frontage to the public realm and contain a large atrium space that brings light down to this level creating a dramatic space. The new building’s modern sophisticated external skin is a reflection of the cutting edge research and care it provides.
