Project details

In 2020, BDP was appointed by Kirklees Council to oversee the transformation of Dewsbury Market and Dewsbury Arcade as part of the 10 year Dewsbury Blueprint. This ambitious vision aims to revitalise the historic town centre by encouraging people to rediscover its charms and improving accessibility.

The Dewsbury Market project involves a complete overhaul of external stalls and the restoration of the locally listed market buildings. This rejuvenation includes the introduction of food and beverage options, as well as evening entertainment.

The 1899 Grade II-listed Dewsbury Arcade has been a feature of the town for approaching 125 years and is set for a revival. Planning permission and listed building consent was secured for its refurbishment and adaptation for Class E uses in 2022. Both projects are now advancing into their development phases, holding great promise for Dewsbury's town centre rejuvenation.
