Project details

Built as part of the Covid-19 response in Wales, the Dragon’s Heart Hospital was a major exercise in the design and delivery of a tempoarary hospital to a set of challenging constraints. The Uk's second largest field hospital opened on 13 April 2020 after just a two week design and delivery period. It was decommissioned towards the end of October and early November 2020. BDP's multi-disciplinary team worked collaboratively with the 

The exemplary collaborative approach between BDP's multidisciplinary team, Cardiff Council, Welsh Rugby Union, Cardiff Blues, The Armed Forces, Mott MacDonald, Archus, Q5 and ES Global and earned three industry awards including Integration and Collaborative Working at the Constructing Excellence Awards 2021 and Regional Covid Response Partnership Award at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2021.

Brief

  • Convert the Principality Stadium into a Nightingale Hospital to provide a specialist facility for the care of Covid-19 patients in Cardiff
