Project details

This project involved refurbishment works to Louth County Council offices to alleviate the issue of overheating in the open plan offices.

BDP carried out an extensive energy study which addressed a wide range of possible improvements including passive ventilation, heating and lighting controls and energy monitoring.

Brief

  • as an alternative to the installation of air-conditioning, Louth County Council commissioned BDP to investigate the potential for a naturally ventilated solution and to simultaneously improve the energy efficiency of the systems within the building

Results

  • natural ventilation solutions identified and applied which avoided recourse to mechanical cooling. Comfort conditions improved by introducing passive vents in external façade
  • passive vents are provided with acoustic treatment which allows fresh air to be introduced to the building whilst keeping out traffic noise from the busy road outside
  • SEI - Energy Efficiency Award 2010
