Galway, Ireland | Galway County Council | 2025 |
Gort Inse Guaire is a diverse market town located south of Galway in west Ireland, and is currently undergoing a town-wide redevelopment of it’s road layout, parking provision and other elements of its public realm. BDP's work focusses primarily on the central Market Square, local park and main road that runs the length of the town. A brand-new sign system is required to compliment the new landscape, sitting alongside new placemaking to enliven the built environment and create focal points through the town.

BDP Graphics & Wayfinding is currently project-managing the implementation of the new placemaking. We began by hosting a workshop for councillors, local groups, and business owners to unpick residents' needs. We then carried out town-wide analysis and devised a wayfinding strategy to understand the challenges facing users. Various concepts were created for a bold new sign family, with the council selecting a favourite to be further developed. These chosen sign concept takes inspiration from the local landmark, Thoor Ballylee Tower, once home to literary vanguard W.B. Yeats.
