London, UK | Vinci St Modwen & Covent Garden Market Authority | Ongoing |
Covent Garden Market has been nourishing London with fresh produce and flowers from its location in Nine Elms for over 40 years. The New Covent Garden Market is spread over 46,500 sqm and is a modern and efficient trading space. Our team was tasked with creating a signage masterplan for the market, which was developed through to tender and construction.
The new wordmark for the market features emoji-style graphics of flowers, fruits, and vegetables, which are bold, minimal, and contemporary. The wordmark is positioned at the entrance to the development and is internally illuminated at night. This adds a new and fresh look to the beloved London institution.

To help visitors identify key destinations within the market, a colour coding strategy was created. The Flower Market, Fruit & Veg Market, Food Exchange, The Arches, and Amenity buildings have been assigned unique colours. The sign structure is flooded with these colours, making it attention-grabbing and complementing the geometry of the architecture.
One of the most unique challenges that we faced was the masterplan phasing. The site will change significantly over the next ten years. Therefore, we designed the directional signs in such a way that they can be easily updated with removable panels as construction phases are completed.
