This new two stream primary school and early years project sits at the heart of the new Maidenhill development in Newton Mearns and accommodates over 400 pupils plus a nursery for 120 children.
Set over two floors, the school is organised around a central atrium which contains interactive zones. A calming internal environment has been designed to accommodate sensory differences. Flexible learning areas include cosy snugs, a birdhouse hideaway for both individual and peer learning, and a larger auditorium. An internal climbing wall, also known as the Maidenhill provides scope for high energy activity.
The early years facility has a circular form, filled with natural light, with a central treetop snug for storytelling and quiet time. There are open plan playrooms with central dining and performance space.
The external environment encourages children to engage with the four essential life elements of earth, air, fire and water with less focus on typical play equipment. The main playground contains a water pump and weirs, play tunnels, bouldering wall, mud kitchen and fire pit as well as a tiered outdoor classroom and social space.
