St. Colmcille’s National School is a state-of-the-art new three storey 10,500m2 primary school, which is the largest primary school built to date by the Department of Education & Skills.
Accommodation consists of 58 classrooms, 12 teaching support rooms, four meeting rooms, two IT rooms, two roof gardens and two canteens. The school has a capacity for 1,500 pupils.
The school building has Junior and Senior school sections with two sets of staff, administration areas and principals etc. To maximise efficiency and to minimise maintenance and utility resources, shared energy facilities for power and thermal energy were used with metering systems for allocation of associated costs.
The use of three atria gives good daylighting throughout the building minimising use of artificial lighting.
