A complete transformation of one of the busiest interchanges in the UK into a world class transport hub through refurbishment of the original roof and the insertion of new infrastructure.

The transformation of one of the UK's busiest interchanges into a world-class transport hub involved refurbishing the original roof and adding new infrastructure. Led by John McAslan & Partners, the project combined the restoration of the existing listed building with thoughtfully designed contemporary additions.
Our team completed GRIP 4 and 5 designs for two major architectural packages, including a new overbridge, lifts, and escalators, as well as the complete replacement of the iconic double-barrel vaulted roof in the main trainshed.
We aimed to conserve and enhance the character of the roof by reusing and modifying historic precedents, while inserting new infrastructure to improve circulation and maintain continuous station operations.
This complete transformation utilised materials sympathetic to the original building, providing a modern and contemporary aesthetic.
