The redevelopment breathes new life into two historically significant but previously unoccupied protected structures, seamlessly linked by a contemporary intervention.

The state-of-the-art civic complex, situated within the architectural conservation area of Fair Street, now houses Louth County Council's administrative offices, a restored council chamber, a public services counter, meeting rooms, and a large multi-purpose exhibition space. Externally, the development features a revitalised public plaza that provides a welcoming green space for the community.

Michael Mullen

“This is a world-class adaptive reuse of a fantastic heritage building. We’ve designed the redevelopment with the Louth community and environment in mind, creating much-needed civic spaces while respecting and enhancing the historical features of the site. The project repositions Fair Street as a vibrant community hub and exemplifies how heritage buildings can be transformed to serve contemporary needs.”

The project, led by our multidisciplinary team of architects, landscape architects, and engineers, exemplifies a commitment to sustainable design. All elements of the project ensure the new facility significantly reduces its environmental footprint. The public plaza along Fair Street enhances the urban environment with granite paving, soft landscaping, and greenery, creating an inviting amenity space, and the new link building, featuring a copper mesh glazed façade and a sedum roof, provides a striking yet sympathetic addition to the restored historic structures.

Elliott Ballam

“The Drogheda Civic Offices Redevelopment is a fantastic state-of-the-art adaptive reuse project of two unoccupied protected structures and a contemporary intervention which links them together. We sensitively designed the new link building to respect, reveal, and enhance the restored features of the existing buildings whilst also providing a new welcoming entrance and impressive public foyer space for Louth County Council.”

“In addition to the carbon emissions saved by selecting adaptive reuse over rebuild, we included further sustainability credentials in the form of heat pumps, solar panels, and a sedum roof, which improves biodiversity within the urban environment. Internally, the material palette of polished concrete, oak timber, and bespoke black joinery ensures a high-quality, durable environment for public use.”

The completed facility now stands as a testament to the power of design in preserving heritage while meeting modern civic and environmental needs.

“The redevelopment and extension to the Drogheda Civic Offices has been a strategic objective of Louth County Council for many years. This project has not only revitalised two protected structures but also created modern, sustainable facilities for the community. It represents a significant step in transforming this historic part of Drogheda, tying in seamlessly with the wider Westgate Vision Redevelopment.”
