'The Terrace' Fan Zone opens at Brighton’s Amex Stadium
‘The Terrace,’ a state-of-the-art fan zone at the American Express Stadium, designed by BDP Pattern, opened to fans ahead of the Brighton vs Aston Villa Premier League fixture on 2nd April. Creating the largest fan experience in the Premier League, the new, dynamic venue can accommodate 1,000 supporters in its covered interior, with an overall capacity of 3,000.
Designed to enhance the matchday experience for home and visiting fans, ‘The Terrace’ is a multi-level space featuring immersive digital media screens, a diverse food and beverage offer, and a central events area. The space also functions as a flexible venue for non-matchday events, offering a unique setting for community gatherings, sports screenings, and live performances.
The design of the new facility is inspired by the character of the UK’s traditional market halls as well as some more emerging, contemporary food and beverage spaces. The geometry of the design fits into the topography of the existing landscape at the confluence of the south and east stadium outer concourses at the foot of the South Downs. The plan form facilitates seamless people movement for event-day crowd flows. The roof of the new structure overhangs the building footprint, providing passive solar shade and shelter for visitors, both inside and outside the building, including on the seating steps that are feathered into the natural slope of the site.

"The completion of ‘The Terrace’ represents a significant moment for Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and its supporters. Our design integrates cutting-edge technology with inclusive social spaces, creating an immersive atmosphere that brings people together. This first-of-its-kind fan zone is a reflection of the club’s ambition to provide a best-in-class experience, while also making a positive contribution to the local community and environment.”

The ground floor features a vibrant, multi-functional events space surrounded by bars and food vendors. Above, the mezzanine level houses an additional bar and seating, with a dedicated sponsors’ area and an entertainment stage. The immersive media wrap that envelops the building transforms it into a dynamic canvas for fan engagement, delivering real-time content and interactive experiences.
The incorporation of sustainability measures was a vital part of the design process. Large roof lights and photovoltaic cells generate solar energy, while glass louvres provide natural ventilation. Green walls along the exterior further enhance biodiversity and seamlessly integrate the structure into the surrounding landscape.
The Terrace will continue to operate as a standalone venue throughout the summer and as a permanent fixture at BHAFC home matches in the 2025/26 season and beyond.
