Caldicot Secondary School

Caldicot School offers 1,500 student places. The new school improves connectivity and learning integration by bringing all students and staff together under one roof. This creates a variety of teaching and learning spaces which can accommodate a full range of learning styles. The school's guiding principles informed the overall design. Departments are grouped together in clusters to allow for knowledge sharing and team teaching. Clusters are arranged around hub spaces, opening opportunity for a wider variety of learning settings.

A clear front door location to the school through which all are welcomed. This has been developed, through discussion with the school into the provision of two co-located front doors: one for visitors, one for students. The entrance to the school has a 'business-like' appeal, similar to contemporary higher education facilities. Learning is made visible from the entrance in a variety of ways. Dining to be away from the main entrance at the rear of the school. The ground floor to house the Learning Resource Centre as well as the 'heavy' technology spaces. The Cluster Hub spaces to be located on the first and second floors. Robust and timeless materials have been used to reflect the spatial arrangements, predominantly glazed ground floor with a two storey band of brickwork above.
