A major 9,000sqm extension to the University of Bristol’s National Composites Centre which brings together academics and enterprising companies to develop new technologies for the design and manufacture of composite products. A new workshop is the primary functional space and longspan structures enable the manoeuvre of items as large as composite aeroplane wings. A new hotpress was installed along with large overhead cranes on rails that can lift up to 30 tonnes. In the heart of teaching space of the building are two lecture theatres which can be opened up to create a large volume.
