New life for a major heritage site. The aesthetic of the area was preserved while boosting floor space with carefully balanced new infill buildings that varied between two and six storeys.

The Round Foundry site spans an entire city block at the heart of Holbeck Urban Village, Leeds, covering approximately 1.5 hectares. It is the world’s only surviving first-generation engineering works and features seven listed buildings.
This mixed-use development blends restored historic structures with new infill buildings. It comprises 94 apartments, including affordable housing, along with commercial and retail spaces such as a pub, restaurant, and coffee shop. Each home has a dedicated parking space, with an additional 140 spaces for commercial and retail users.
The design enhances the area's compact urban fabric through interconnected courtyards and improved pedestrian and vehicular routes. Existing streets are preserved, with expanded pedestrian pathways creating better connections across the site. Buildings range from two to six storeys, with three storeys being the most common.
