The four storey building, home to the UK's first pioneering Rare Diseases Centre for Children, comprises a combined inpatient and outpatient cancer centre and three new operating theatres. It increases capacity and streamline care for young people with cancer and rare diseases. New features include staff breakout rooms, single en-suite rooms, play areas and a teenage common room. The ground floor which will link to the hospital's existing Victorian building, will have a bright and airy courtyard and cafe. The block is built on the site of a former hospital car park. Drop off spaces and a dedicated ambulance bay have been incorporated to facilitate easy access for patients and visitors.
