New hospital building opened by local MP

The Jubilee Building at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton was officially opened today [23 January 2015] by local MP Jeremy Browne.

The new building contains three wards with 112 single en-suite bedrooms, which have been grouped into eight room pods to allow nurses and other health care professionals more time to deliver care directly to patients and to create an environment that improves patients’ safety and well-being.

At the centre of the new building is a therapeutic courtyard, including a water feature and sensory landscaping, which can be used by patients and their visitors.

Project director Nick Fairham said: “The design follows BDP’s humanising healthcare principles which pay close attention to clinical effectiveness and efficiency but they always prioritise people – patients, their visitors and the staff who care for them.”

The building, which opened to patients last year, was designed by BDP’s architects and landscape architects. It was delivered by Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with BAM.
