Refurbishment and modification programme including an energy development plan and building extension.

BDP carried out a full energy study of the existing Wicklow County Council offices and through the use of advanced simulations, developed a strategy for significantly improving the internal environment within the offices without the need for energy intensive air conditioning.

Brief

  • investigate comfort conditions in existing offices with particular focus on resolving over-heating and ventilation issues
  • seek to identify solutions that conformed to our client’s sustainability aspirations

Results

  • enhanced window opening solution adopted instead of adding mechanical cooling. Passive ventilation stacks introduced utilizing existing corridors and stairwells
