Project details

New school development on the site of an existing school in Mountrath, Co. Laois.  The new 700 pupil school was built to the rear of the existing school building whilst the existing school remained in operation.

This school includes teaching accommodation, labs, administration rooms, a general purpose room, and a large sports hall.

Brief

  • to provide a high quality new second level school and associated sports hall
  • to optimise the buildings layout, orientation, room locations and facade details
  • maintain the operation of the existing school whilst building the new school

Results

  • BDP assisted with the developing the air leakage prevention strategy for the building and the building achieved an impressive result of 1.9m3/m2/hr which made it one of the most air tight new secondary schools in Ireland at the time of construction
