Mahon Point Printing Press

Facts

Project details

BDP Mechanical & Electrical Engineers were commissioned by Thomas Crosbie Holdings Ltd for the design of a new printing plant to produce the Irish Examiner and a number of other Irish regional newspapers. The printing facility is located at Mahon Point industrial/retail park on the southern outskirts of Cork city.

The accommodation includes press hall, reel store, mail room and ancillary and support spaces. The building was designed to be capable of future extension.

Whilst industrial buildings can often include facilities that require energy intensive engineering systems for particular processes, we strongly believe that such buildings can still benefit enormously from a sustainable, energy conscious design approach.

Brief

  • provide energy efficient, robust, easily maintainable M&E services to support the printing press and associated facilities

Results

  • fully coordinated M&E systems that provide the required environmental conditions for newspaper production
  • energy reduction measures include use of free ambient cooling when conditions permit, as well as a range of plant control regimes that minimise motive power

Integrated services
