Project details

This 2,200m2 project consists of a new 32 bed 24 hour care unit and a 15 place day treatment department. The building benefits from excellent levels of natural ventilation and daylighting. A biomass pellet boiler was used as the main heat source and was carefully optimised to not only feed the new building but to link into a section of the existing hospital, considerably improving the systems payback period.

Our design also concentrated on the simplification of the controls system to minimise user interaction while maximising efficiency.

Brief

  • to design the complete buildings services systems for the building including the biomass and heat recovery system

Results

  • in addition to our work with the project architect to optimise the buildings passive performance, including natural ventilation and daylight, our engineers developed a particularly innovative heating strategy that included the use of a biomass boiler
